What is virtual hosting?

This is the act of hosting multiple websites on one server. Very few websites need a dedicated server, or a server specifically for that site. Virtual hosting allows the end user to have a cheap and reliable form of hosting.

What is a domain name?

A domain name is like call letters for a radio station. It is a name that is assigned to your website and allows browsers to direct to it.

What is a server?

A server is a computer that stores data put on a network. Web servers have a static IP address meaning that its not changing so that you can direct a web browser to the same address every time.

What is a script?

A script is a text file telling the server and browser what to do. It is written in one of many scripting languages(i.e. html, php, asp, etc.), which are just different ways of writing code depending on what you are wanting to accomplish. According to the type of script it could be processed on your computer or by the server itself.

What is a browser?

A browser is a program like Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. They point to a server, read the script that is on it, and display the data on your computer.

How do I register a domain?

After checking the availability of your domain name, fill out the domain application. Let it be noted that due to the immense size of the Internet, a domain name may lose availability from the time you apply for it and the time we process your application.

What does web space and bandwidth mean?

Every element of your website is data and web space is the amount of compiled data that you can store on the server. Websites are generally very small, but can become over-encumbered with the use of large images, excess scripts, and large databases.

Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transfered from the server to a browser in the period of one month. This can be eaten up by the use of large images, excess scripts, and large databases.

How can I prevent using too much web space or bandwidth?

To save on excess use of web space and bandwidth it is recommended to use images that are a reasonable size and set at a resolution of 72 pixels per inch. Ideally you should design your website to be viewed at a full screen resolution of no more than 1024 by 768. Also, limit the amount of redundant information contained on the website. Creating databases that collect more information than is necessary to fulfill their task can also consume disk space in a way that is hard to correct without the risk of losing possibly important data.

What is a database?

Often times information about a websites products, services, or members are stored on a database. This is contained in something similar to a spreadsheet that can be accessed by your server if it is supported.

Why can't I access my website?

First, make sure that your homepage is on the server, is named "index", and written in a web language. Occasionally it is necessary for our servers to be serviced. We attempt to keep this to a minimum, but occasionally some issues may arise We strive to not allow a site to be offline for a length of time that would be considered an inconvenience If your site is not accessible for more than 24 hours or if it is pertinent that you access your site please submit a ticket and we will attempt find and correct the problem as soon as we can.

Do I need a different domain name when I switch hosts?

No. When you apply for hosting select the box that says transfer domain. TECK Web Hosting LLC will contact your current registrar and transfer your domain to our server.

**Note: The process of domain transfer can take a few days and in some cases longer. Be aware that it may take a little while before you can access your new website.

How much do plans cost?

Plans vary based on what you get. Click here for a list of our basic plans, but they can have add-ons that will alter the price.

Are there going to be ad banners on my website?

No. The only form of advertisement you will see is if you opt for your Trucker's Site.com store front to be displayed on your website. Once you pay for your web space it is yours to do what you want as long as it fits within the Terms of Use and the Service Agreement.

How do I put content on my website?

If you have a WYSIWYG program such as Dreamweaver it might offer the ability to set up an FTP connection directly. Otherwise it is recommended to use an FTP Client such as WS_FTP_Lite or FileZilla and just input the data that we will send you once your website is set up. After you set up your FTP client you will be able to just drag and drop information onto your server space.

I just updated my website. Why don't I see the changes?

When updating some server side scripts it can take a little while for the server to refresh and read the new script. Sometimes it is the cause of a bad script. Check your script and make sure than there are no issues. If you wait more than 24 hours and still haven't seen your script submit a ticket to TECK Support and we will address the issue as soon as we can.

I have exceeded my bandwidth what do I do?

If you exceed your bandwidth you will be charged a small fee dependent on the plan that you have chosen. If you notice that you are about to exceed your bandwidth you can opt to upgrade your plan at any point. If you want to downgrade again you will have to wait until you have gone through a full month cycle of your current plan.

I want to add a service to my current plan what do I do?

Currently you will need to contact a customer service representative via the telephone or our online ticketing system.
